Below you’ll find answers to questions we get asked the most, as well as some tips we know will make your experience enjoyable.

What is a LAN party?

A LAN party is a gathering where people bring their computers to a single location to play multiplayer video games together, over a Local Area Network.

Will there be prizes, giveaways or other free stuff?

While we intend to run tournaments and competitions, prizes are not the focus of this year’s event so there will be no advance details provided at this time.

How do I get access to EchoLan 2024?

Head over to our EchoLan 2024 event page for details on our 2024 event and information on how to join EchoLan for access.

What should I bring?
  • We provide 2 power outlets and 1 Gigabit Ethernet lead per seat.
  • We do not recommend relying on Wi-Fi.
  • A monitor setup wider than 27″ requires a 1200mm wide space allocation as part of the Battle Pass.
  • We will provide basic seating, you are welcome to use your own provided it does not obstruct other attendees.
  • We will provide water, tea and coffee.

You should at least bring a computer capable of running games from 2007 at medium settings, a monitor, keyboard, mouse, headphones, and the leads you need to connect them together. Remember to fully charge any wireless peripherals!

To maximise your space and reduce clutter, complexity and risk to equipment, we recommend a basic setup with just the above, leaving larger streaming setups, microphone booms and fancy audio interfaces at home.

You may also bring your own food, our recommendation is to opt for non-greasy finger foods and snacks, along with your beverages of choice.

Here is a simple checklist you can copy and refer back to:

  • Computer
  • Monitor
  • Keyboard, mouse and mouse pad or mat
  • Headphones
  • Cables
  • Deoderant and toiletries
  • Snacks
  • Drinks
What if I can’t eat the meals provided?

On the registration page, opt out of any options that don’t suit you, and let us know your requirements. Chef Muppet will be in touch.

While we will do our best to cater to everyone, please note we might not be able to accommodate all dietary requirements.

Can I drink alcohol?

EchoLan is fortunate enough to be operating with a venue licensed for BYO Alcohol, so you can bring beer, wine, or light drinks if you wish. All attendees are expected to drink responsibly, and staff may limit the amount of booze you bring if they feel it’s appropriate. Details are available on the registration page.

Is parking available?

The venue is located right next to the Northcote Birkenhead Ferry Terminal. There is plenty of on-street parking nearby and we also have a drop-off zone directly outside the venue to allow you to quickly unload/load your gear.

How do I get set up?

We recommend following the below checklists for the most enjoyable experience:

Before the event:

  1. Download and install anything you think you might need
  2. Check for and install updates, and, in any case, reboot
  3. Backup and clear as much disk space as you can
  4. Confirm all hardware is working
  5. Carefully pack to avoid damage in transport

Upon arriving at the event:

  1. Greet your concierge and be led to your seat
  2. Carefully unpack and setup your space
  3. Plug in to network and power and turn on
  4. Confirm all hardware is working
  5. Stop to listen to the event briefing from staff
  6. Follow instructions to grab files from the LAN
  7. Test everything is working
  8. Have fun!

At the end of the event:

  1. Shut down and unplug from power and network
  2. Carefully pack to avoid damage in transport
  3. Be sad but excited for the next one!
Where are the premium seats located?

We are working on a seating layout graphic and will upload it here once ready!

Can you seat me next to someone or in a specific location?

If you’re part of a group of 2 or more and wish to be seated together, please ensure each member enters the same Team Name on the registration form and we’ll do our best to accommodate this. Unfortunately, we cannot fulfill any other seating or location requests.

How many people will be attending?

We will have final numbers 3 weeks out from the event. This is going to be a limited seat event, so make sure to get registered as soon as you can!

Can people not attending the event play games with me?

While you are free to play whichever games you wish while attending, only registered attendees will be able to participate in scheduled events.

Where can I sleep/shower?

We are unfortunately not able to provide dedicated sleeping or shower facilities at this year’s event. LAN parties are notorious for running very late into the night, so we recommend you organise with nearby friends, family or other stay ahead of time if you need accomodation. We are unable to provide formal recommendations.

Remember to shower at least once per day, brush your teeth and wear deodorant as needed!

What if I have issues with my computer?

While we will have staff on-hand to assist with basic troubleshooting, we encourage all attendees to make sure their system is running well prior to packing up for the event.

How secure will my computer be at the event?

The crew will be monitoring physical and network traffic and enforcing strict policies for the purpose of maintaining the security, stability, and performance of the event’s systems. Attendees are strictly prohibited from scanning, intercepting, attempting to access, attempting to damage or disrupt, tampering with, altering, or using any equipment without explicit permission. This includes the equipment of other attendees, staff, and the core network. Violations of this rule will result in immediate expulsion from the event and, if necessary, further action.

We also encourage attendees to follow best security practices, including locking or shutting down your computer when not present, and keeping software up to date.

If you see something that doesn’t look right, please let our crew know.
