Below you’ll find answers to questions we get asked the most, as well as some tips we know will make your experience enjoyable.

What is a LAN party?

A LAN party is a gathering where people bring their computers to a single location to play multiplayer video games together, over a Local Area Network.

Will there be prizes, giveaways or other free stuff?

Each EchoLan is slightly different. Check the schedule page for full details on tournaments, and any that might include prizes.

How do I get access to EchoLan?

Head over to our EchoLan event page for details on our event and information on how to join EchoLan for access.

If you are ordering for multiple people, we recommend individually adding each pass to your cart before checking out, specifying each attendee’s details (nickname / handle, team name) separately.

What do you provide?
  • 2x power outlets and 1x 1 Gigabit Ethernet lead per seat, with the Pro Max seats getting 1x 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
  • We do not recommend relying on Wi-Fi if your system has a wired port.
  • 900mm wide desk space as part of the Event Pass, or 1200mm wide desk space as part of the Pro or Pro Max Pass.
  • Basic seating, you are welcome to use your own provided it does not obstruct other attendees.
  • Water, tea and coffee
What should I bring?

Here is a list you can copy and refer to:

  • Computer capable of running any games you intend to play. For the best experience, at least games from 2007 at medium settings.
  • Monitor with stand. A monitor setup wider than 27″ requires a 1200mm wide space allocation as part of the Pro or Pro Max Pass, which tops out at around 32-34″. We ask that you consider your neighbours when nearing these limits. Note that we do not support monitor mounts for any pass, due to the shape of the desks.
  • Keyboard, mouse and mouse pad or mat.
  • Headphones.
  • Leads to connect your setup together.
  • Food/snacks and drinks. Our recommendation, based purely on experience, is to bring non-greasy foods.
  • Showered.
  • Deodorant, bring other toiletries as needed.

To maximise space and reduce complexity and risk to equipment, while you can deck out your desk however you like, we recommend a basic setup with just the above, leaving larger streaming setups, microphone booms and fancy audio interfaces at home. Remember to fully charge any wireless peripherals!

How do I get set up?

We recommend following the below checklists for the most enjoyable experience:

Before the event:

  1. Download and install anything you think you might need
  2. Check for and install updates, and, in any case, reboot
  3. Backup and clear as much disk space as you can
  4. Confirm all hardware is working
  5. Carefully pack to avoid damage in transport

Upon arriving at the event:

  1. Greet your concierge and be led to your seat
  2. Carefully unpack and setup your space
  3. Plug in to network and power and turn on
  4. Confirm all hardware is working
  5. Stop to listen to the event briefing from staff
  6. Follow instructions to grab files from the LAN
  7. Test everything is working
  8. Have fun!

At the end of the event:

  1. Shut down and unplug from power and network
  2. Carefully pack to avoid damage in transport
  3. Be sad but excited for the next one!
What is the food situation?

You have the option for a delicious catered breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday with a Saturday Meal Pass add-on.

Outside of that, we invite attendees to bring food and snacks to the event. The venue is located close to many amenities: Carl’s Jr, Z, Reduced to Clear, McDonald’s, Hell Pizza and several cafes and restaurants are all a short walk away.

I have dietary requirements, how do I let you know?

If you are ordering a Saturday Meal Pass, select your meal preference and let us know your requirements in the provided “dietary requirements” field shown before you add your main event pass to your cart. Chef Muppet will be in touch.

While we do our best to cater to everyone, please note we might not be able to accommodate all dietary requirements.

Can I drink alcohol?

EchoLan is operating at a venue licensed for BYO alcohol, so you can bring beer, wine, or light drinks. All attendees are expected to drink responsibly, and staff can limit the amount of booze you bring in and consume. Details are available on the registration page. Remember to stay hydrated!

Where can I sleep/shower?

We’re unable to offer separate sleeping or shower facilities at this event. Since LAN parties often run late into the night, we recommend arranging accommodation with nearby friends, family, or other options in advance. You’re welcome to rest at your desk, but we can’t provide any formal lodging recommendations beyond that.

It is recommended that you shower at least once per day, brush your teeth and wear deodorant as needed. If your personal hygiene disrupts others, you may be asked to return once it has been rectified.

Is parking available?

There is plenty of on-street parking nearby and we also have a drop-off zone directly outside the venue to allow you to quickly unload/load your gear.

What comes with the Pro Max / 10 Gigabit Ethernet pass?

The Pro Max pass includes everything from the others, plus a dedicated 10 Gigabit Ethernet port in our core network stack for blazing fast file transfers and content through our LanCache. Downloading content from Steam, Epic Games, and more will put your rig to the test!

Note: These switch ports support 100/1000/10GBase-T. Your system must be able to negotiate one of these speeds. 2.5 and 5 Gigabit Ethernet are not supported. Please confirm your hardware is compatible before purchasing.

Where are the premium seats located?

Premium seats are grouped closest to the amenities. Our crew will guide you to your assigned seat when you arrive.

Can you seat me next to someone or in a specific location?

If you’re in a group of two or more and want to sit together, make sure everyone enters the same Team Name on the registration form and we’ll do our best to seat you together. Specific seating requests are not able to be accommodated.

How many people will be attending?

We aim to host between 40 and 60 attendees.

Can people not attending the event play games with me?

You’re free to play any games you like during the event, but only registered attendees can take part in scheduled competitions and activities.

What if I have issues with my computer?

While we will have staff on-hand to assist with basic troubleshooting, we encourage all attendees to make sure their system is running well prior to packing up for the event.

How secure will my computer be at the event?

The crew will be monitoring physical and network traffic and enforcing strict policies for the purpose of maintaining the security, stability, and performance of the event’s systems. Attendees are strictly prohibited from scanning, intercepting, attempting to access, attempting to damage or disrupt, tampering with, altering, or using any equipment without explicit permission. This includes the equipment of other attendees, staff, and the core network. Violations of this rule will result in immediate expulsion from the event and, if necessary, further action.

We also encourage attendees to follow best security practices, including locking or shutting down your computer when not present, and keeping software up to date.

If you see something that doesn’t look right, please let our crew know.
